Important Registration Information

  • Please read the VPB Policy on Registration and Acceptable Qualifications first
  • Registration is from 1 July to 30 June of each year, regardless of how long you practise.
  • Registration is dependant on both an annual fee AND the submission of an annual return. (The annual return includes the continued professional development (CPD) points.)
  • Registration invoices and annual return forms are sent in March each year and due on 30 June of each year.
  • If the Annual Registration Fee is not paid by 30 June, you will be removed from the Register for non payment; this will incur a penalty fee to be restored to the Register - as well as the Annual Registration Fee payment.
  • If the annual return is not submitted by 30 June, you will be removed from the Register for non submission of annual return; this will also incur a penalty fee to be restored to the Register as well as the Annual Registration Fee payment.

  • For those veterinary practitioners registering between 1 January to 30 June, there is a Half Year Registration Fee.

Removal From the Register

Veterinary practitioners who will not be practising veterinary science in NSW for the rest of a registration year (1 July to 30 June), may require to remove themself from the Register. This MUST be in writing. It is as simple as filling out the Removal From Register form and posting to the Board's Office.

Restoration to Register

Veterinary practitioners who have fully registered in the past and removed themselves from the Register for whatever reason, do not need to submit a full application again. To practise in NSW, the veterinary practitioner needs to be restored to the Register. It is as simple as filling in the Restoration to Register form.

A veterinarian practiotioner may restore themselves as a primary registration (i.e. reside within in New South Wales) or as a secondary registration (i.e. residing in Australia but outside New South Wales)

A letter of professional standing (LOPS) will also be required from the Board of the veterinary practitioner's most recent place of employment.

The restoration fees are the same as the registration fees mentioned above.

Change of Name

If you wish to practise under a different name, please fill in and post the change of name form. You may only practise under the name you are registered with.

Letter of Professional Standing (LOPS)

When registering with another Board, you will be required to submit an LOPS from the NSW Board. Please contact the relevant Board for their individual policies towards LOPS. In order for the NSW Board's staff to provide such a letter, please fill out and post the LOPS form.

Proof of Registration in NSW - Registration Cards

Every registered veterinary practitioner in NSW will be issued with a Registration Card as proof of registration in NSW. This card is the perfect size to fit in your wallet/purse and have on you at all times. Cards are issued in July of each year to new/restored applicants upon registration.
