Veterinary Practitioner Registration

Australian Graduates

University Students

A student, who is enrolled in a course of study to achieve an academic award in veterinary science extending over at least 5 years and is doing a restricted act of veterinary science as part of the requirements of that course and is acting under the direct supervision of a NSW registered veterinary practitioner, may perform acts of veterinary science.

University Graduates

When applying for Full Registration, Graduates are required to print out and fill in the relevant forms and post them to the Board's Office with the relevant supporting documentation.

As most Graduates do not receive their degree until their Graduation Ceremony, the Board uses a list sent by the Dean’s office, from differing Australian or New Zealand (NZ) universities, to verify students have completed the requirements for their undergraduate Veterinary Degree.

The Universities that provide the Board with a Dean’s list are:
  • The University of Sydney,
  • Murdoch University,
  • The University of Melbourne,
  • The University of Queensland and;
  • Massey University (NZ).

Once the application has been processed the Graduate will be granted Provisional Registration (a letter will be posted confirming this). Provisional Registration means that the Graduate is qualified to practise Veterinary Science subject to Board approval upon receipt of a certified copy of the Graduate's Degree after Graduation. Provisional registration is granted for three months only.

After Board approval and receipt of a copy of a certified degree, the Graduate will receive a Certificate of Registration.
