About the consultation

The NSW Government is introducing a licensing scheme for medical gas systems. This means that tradespeople who install medical gas systems in medical, health, aged-care and veterinary facilities will soon be required to hold a special licence.

The new scheme aims to ensure that the people who install and commission medical gas systems are subject to stringent licensing requirements and work is done safely by licensed, regulated professionals.

The proposed regulations support a Bill that passed in Parliament on 6 August 2020 and allow the scheme to begin, including:

  • licensing
  • testing and reporting
  • compliance with Australian Standards
  • dealing with defective work and serious medical gas accidents.

More information, including a consultation paper and the draft amendment regulations, is available on the NSW Fair Trading website.

Have your say on the proposed regulations by 5:00 pm, 27 September 2020.

You can provide feedback online using the consultation tool, or by email to medicalgas@customerservice.nsw.gov.au
