Ear Marking or Tattooing of Female Companion Animals
The Companion Animals Act 1998 (s 86A) from 1 July 2019 has introduced a requirement for veterinarians to ear mark or tattoo female companion animals (dogs and cats) at the time of desexing.
However, this must only be performed:
- Whilst the animal is under general anaesthetic
- If it is considered by the veterinarian to be safe and humane
- If the owner has consented to the procedure
