NSW DPI: Update COVID-19


The Queensland Government has announced changes to border restrictions for some NSW border residents


From today, NSW border zone residents who live in a non-restricted LGA can cross the Queensland border for work and volunteering that cannot be performed from home and for other essential purposes. 

 

If you are permitted to cross the border for work or volunteering, you will need to have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.  

 

To enter Queensland from an LGA within the border zone you must: 

When you receive your Queensland entry pass via email, you must read all instructions and be able to access it at all times (either in a printed version or on an electronic device).

LGAs of Walgett, Brewarrina, Bourke, City of Broken Hill or the Unincorporated Far West 

 

The Queensland Government has determined that the LGAs of Walgett, Brewarrina, Bourke, City of Broken Hill or the Unincorporated Far West are in the restricted NSW border zone. 

 

Border zone residents who live in or have been to these LGAs will only be allowed to enter Queensland for essential work, emergency volunteering and other limited essential purposes

There are no changes to Queensland border restrictions for residents outside the border zone 

 

The Queensland Government considers the rest of NSW outside the border zone to be a COVID-19 hotspot. If you have been outside the border zone in the last 14 days you are only able to enter Queensland for a limited number of reasons including accessing essential health care, complying with court orders, fulfilling child custody arrangements or if you are a specialist worker

Other restrictions for entering Queensland 

 

You cannot cross the border: 

  • if you have been in a restricted NSW border zone LGA (or any another COVID-19 hotspot) in the last 14 days 
  • to attend a wedding or funeral 
  • to exercise 
  • for recreational purposes, including: 
    • meeting friends or family for a meal out 
    • holidays 
    • spectating at professional sporting events 
    • attending cinemas, theme parks or other tourist experiences. 

 

NSW border zone residents must not undertake any of these activities while in Queensland even if you have entered for an essential purpose.
 

The NSW border with Queensland remains open 


The NSW border is open, however travellers from Queensland are required to complete a travel declaration and follow the rules on the NSW Government website.  


If you are entering or plan to enter NSW from interstate, additional rules and restrictions will apply if you have been in a place listed in a COVID-19 concerns notice.
