Purpose of the Board
The Board of Veterinary Practitioners of NSW, constituted under Section 76 of the Veterinary Practice Act 2003, is responsible for :
- The registration of veterinary practitioners practising in New South Wales.
- The licensing of veterinary practices.
- The regulation of the conduct and standards of practise of veterinary science.
Constitution of the Board
The Board consists of eight (8) members appointed by the Governor.
- Four (4) are veterinary practitioners selected by the Minister to represent each of the following:
- specialist veterinary practitioners.
- veterinary practitioners practising in urban areas.
- veterinary practitioners practising in rural areas.
- academics in the field of veterinary science.
- Two (2) are to be veterinary practitioners selected by the Minister.
- Two (2) represent consumers of veterinary services.
Aims of the Board
The Board aims to ensure that veterinary practitioners provide a standard of veterinary service to the public and a high degree of professionalism to their colleagues. This is achieved through the overall regulation of the practise of veterinary science together with regular control and consultation with other State Veterinary Boards, the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council and the veterinary profession in general.

The Board's staff consists of three permanent employees and one part-time member. Permanent staff consists of the Registrar, Deputy Registrar/Complaints Officer and Registrations/Finance Officer. Part-time staff includes the Administrative Support Officer. Below is a brief summary of their duties.
Registrar - Glenn Lynch
The Registrar is responsible for assisting the Board in the administration of its activities under the legislation and the overall management of the organisation by establishing strategy, policy and operations to guide the Board in its interactions within the operating environment. The Registrar also assists with the processing of complaints made to the Board, conducts hospital inspections on an ad hoc basis and assists the Board in determining applications for hospital licences.
Deputy Registrar / Complaints Officer - Mary Lydamore
The Deputy Registrar is responsible for supporting the Registrar, providing general office administration and co-ordinating the printing and distribution of the Boards publications.
The Complaints Officer is responsible for the processing of correspondence to and from consumers lodging a complaint and the veterinary practitions involved. The Complaints Officer also assists the other staff with invoicing and processing of annual roll fees and hospital license fees.
Registrations/Finance Officer - Des Lyttle
The Registrations/Finance Officer is responsible for processing applications for registration to practise in NSW and the processing of letters of professional standing to practise interstate or overseas. The Registration/Finance Officer is also responsible for the book keeping of the Boards finances that include MYOB processing, BAS returns, Board, and staff salaries and key annual audit involvement.
