You need a director identification number (director ID) if you're a director of a company, registered Australian body, registered foreign company or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporation.

A director ID is a unique 15-digit numerical identifier that will be assigned to directors as proof of their identity.  As a director, you keep this director ID forever.

The Australian Business Registry Services has announced that whilst the deadline to apply for a director ID was 30 November, it would not penalise anyone who applied for their director ID by 14 December. In effect, the announcement makes the new deadline 14 December.
