Important message for veterinary students and employers

Registration as a veterinarian

Only a registered person is able to refer to themselves as a veterinarian and perform restricted acts of veterinary science.  As many veterinary students are aware, there is an exemption from registration for students completing the requirements for a course accredited by the AVBC.

Importantly, this exemption does not apply to students who have completed the requirements of the course and are awaiting their results.

It is possible to employ veterinary students awaiting their final results prior to becoming graduands but not as veterinarians and they must not perform restricted acts of veterinary science even under supervision.

Once results have been approved by the university the Board is able to grant provisional registration to graduands (once an application for full registration is processed and payment completed).  Confirmation of completion of the requirements of the degree can be provided to the Board via eQuals or the Dean’s List.  Graduates can provide a copy of their testamur via eQuals and have their provisional registration changed to full registration or they can simply apply for full registration.

Provisional registration may be granted for up to 3 months so it is important for graduates to provide a copy of their testamur as soon as possible.
